- BF1942 has a black screen/won't run/crashes on startup:
If you're running (Vista?), W7, W8, or W10, you might need to enable DirectPlay if Windows hasn't automatically enabled it for you. Click here to follow a visual step-by-step guide to see if it's enabled.
Also, do the following fix for alt-tab crashes:
- BF1942 crashes when I alt-tab out of the game:
Go to your BF1942 installation folder, right-click on BF1942.exe, click on Properties, click on the Compatibility tab, check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for ___" and choose Windows XP (Service Pack 3). Make sure it's SP3! You should also enable "Run as Administrator" as it tends to fix many bugs with older games like BF1942.
- I can't see any servers on the Internet tab even after clicking "Update":
First, make sure that you're allowing BF1942.exe to communicate on your network. Windows will probably ask you about this the first time you run BF1942. Next, you'll need to make a very quick fix to your hosts file to point it towards the new master server and away from the old EA server. Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc, open up "hosts" file with Notepad or something similar, then add this line at the very end:
Code: Select all
Or, you can download the "hosts patcher" from here that does the same thing.
- I get a lot of video stutter/my FPS isn't smooth, even with a modern PC:
Go to <Your Path Here>\Battlefield 1942\mods\bf1942\settings\VideoDefault and change the value of "renderer.lockfps" to 300. It doesn't actually "lock" your FPS to 300; it just allows a higher overall FPS.
- I don't have enough space on my HDD/SSD for all of the mods available at 1942mods.com:
It might be time to uninstall Skyrim or buy a new device!
